The uses of social media, for individuals, groups businesses and society.
Individuals:
Social media has impacted on the world in a way that no one had foreseen. Just think less than 15 years ago we had no Facebook, tumbler, tinder, twitter etc. Individuals can connect with friends and colleagues from around the world in seconds at the touch of a button. They can network through sights like link din, find jobs, even promote themselves or an event too many users they would never reach other than using a social media platform, all at the touch of a button.

Groups:
Groups have begun using social media in a very big way now,
they start up groups offering surveys that offer freebies to the users, while
catching all there internet search history’s and using cookies to generate
information from each personal individual. Creating a digital footprint of your
likes. Which they use in turn to see and track what you have been browsing
before so they can send you tailor made adverts based on previous views.
Businesses:
Business and social media use has exponentially exploded to
the point where the market is saturated and the big corporations have taken
over. They promote ads based on what you have liked or what they think you may
like which is all done through your browser history, cookies and previous
searches. Once they usually only targeted you through email which due to the
volumes of these adverts, email providers introduced a junk mail feature as
people where being bombarded by mail. At
the minute most social media businesses that promote ads, are generally
personally tailored ads designed specifically for the user, but even then they
are broadening their horizons and there are more and more non tailored based
ones.
Society:
Society in general has taken to social media by their
billions because it is the most cost effective way to speak type and communicate
to their friends and family all over the world. This has in turn caused more
than a few headaches for governments all around the world as they struggle to
control the data that is being processed by each user. Although laws have been
passed in trying to control it these have proven pretty ineffective. But there are
already plans and laws in motion to try and control every aspect of social
media, regardless of any privacy or freedom of speech laws that are still in
effect. There is also an underlying issue
of people trolling users, abusing users and even going as far as murdering
people.
